We don't get much of that fresh off the boat stuff here in the UK unless the people are literally fresh off the boat well not that I've noticed much anyway. I suppose you get a little bit of that off some Jamaicans that came here to work 50 60 years ago that sort of thing. I suppose the reality is a lot of Africans ect here are fresh off the boat so to speak so few really mind.

I'm what people call Black or African american, but I do not consider myself either of the two, I consider myself African because thats where my people are from, and while (so-called) "blacks" try to distance themselves from Africa whites are trying to attach themselves to it, Ironic huh? My favorite thing to ask "blacks and "whites" is how can you be "american" when in reality this place was stolen and renamed america? So in reality there is no "america" not by moral standards anyway

It seems there really is no accurate term. So I've decided that I should just not bother with the whole shenningans. If I see a person, no matter the skin color I shall just refer to them "as that dude" or "dudette".
If people don't realize who I am talking about I shall be more specific and say "you know that one dude".

In other words, I'm not my European ancestors and neither would my foster mom be her probable African ancestors. While I see that "black" or "black american" could be considered insulting (btw I don't care if people call me ' white' or 'cracker'. I actually find the latter amusing as it makes me think of saltines.) I don't think just assuming everyone or generalizing all black, brown or light skin people as "African" is much better. Though black or black american is also a bit too generalized.

One might think that because I speak English that I might be a transplanted Englishman. This is not so.
First of all, as far as I know I do not have English ancestors. Second while I speak English I'm speaking
American English rather than British English and yes there is a difference. So then I'm some other kind
of transplanted European? Perhaps, but again I would have a tough time fitting in. I don't even speak the same language as my ancestors much less know too much of their culture.

I'm sure the same would be for my Jamaican foster mom. Even if she found out she was from I dunno Tanzania I seriously doubt she would "fit right in". Why? Because there is a difference in culture. I'm not saying she wouldn't get along but I'm pretty sure she would stick out. Not because of anything to do with skin color but because she would act different than the Tanzanians would. Just as I would act different from Europeans. Note the key word here is different and NOT better.
