@williambrodie Tail out/ tilt rotors to spill lift while maintaining load on the head.

That's not NOE. It's low level.

After 1500 hours in Blackhawks I was not comfortible with this ride. It did not sound right at all.

So - If your in a teetering rotor machine - how do you do knap of the earth? Collective down instead of cyclic pushovers? Do they still use hueys to train? Seeing as they are performance Class 3? Just looking for peoples opinions, not trying to act smart

@motokid032 not true there is always an option for an auto. 2 feet or 2000 feet up. you just dont dump the collective immediately. you will bleed rpm really quick but you will be pulling aft cyclic to slow down immediately which will help spool up the rotor until you can plop straight down into trees or at least with as little forward speed as possible

No such thing as an auto at that height..Straight into the trees.

I imagine that NOE flight at night and in enemy territory would be a terrifying thing to do,.
Nap of the earth is basically terrain flight...following the terrain features...low and fast. Keeps you from being a good target. The thing the co-pilot is messing with is a reading light, or map light. I was an Army helicopter crewchief for many years. Some things you never forget.

The pilot in the left seat is the co-pilot and thing he keeps grabbing is a map light. it is pretty much just a good place to rest your hand when you are along for the ride.
