July 2, 2011-Cumberland, MD:
Back in July, after visiting the Altoona area, I made the hour drive to the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in Cumberland, MD. While I expected the train to arrive about an hour before the scheduled departure, the train didn't pull into Cumberland until 10 minutes before the scheduled departure. So we'll watch the train pull into Cumberland station, stop at Cumberland, then move down the street and watch the train depart West. The excursion that day had WMSR "Mountain Thunder" 2-8-0 #734, 10 cars, and a nice surprise trailing, WMSR GP30 #502, which is rarely used on excursions (usually handled by WMSR GP30 #501). Enjoy, and stay tuned for a video from my second trip to the WMSR from September!

  • I love the B&W! Awesome video! I really want to see this engine. Hopefully I will next year!

  • I rode in the cab of 734 the day before. Shorter train (6 cars) but no diesel.
