im doing towers this year, which density wood is good for the frame? how about for trusses?

im in the B division too and my friend and i are doing the bridge and the regionals is tomorrow and one of our bridges held 52 pounds! sooo we did that design!! and were hoping that we will do good.

what size of balsa did you use? did you mix balsa and bass? what did the winner at nationals have? I am building a bridge for states right now its around 11 g and gotta test it out. Thanks

Which bridge design are you referring to?
95% of the time, I used just balsa. There were some occasions where did want a little bit of bass though. For instance, my 1/16" square tension members were composed of bass.
The winner at nationals (C) used all balsa, I believe.

@BalsaBridgeBuilder ok thanks it looked like a very good design. Did you test it out with bridge building programs first?

The link in the information box has descriptions of all 42 bridges I built last year, including wood size and density information.
I did not try out any of these designs with a program. To test every design I thought of, I built an actual bridge and put it to the test in real life. It may seem inefficient, but obviously my results were quite nice. : )

what type of ca did you use? thin medium thick?

Thin for butt joints and medium for lap joints.
