What can the Buddipole Deluxe portable HF antenna do? How well does it work? This video shows an afternoon's DX on 20m using a Kenwood TS590s running 100 watts into a Buddipole Deluxe. The Buddipole was actually set up for 40m but I used my Kenwood TS590's built in tuner to compensate for the 40m antenna. This means that my transmit and receive signal were not as good as they could have been had i tuned up the antenna for the 20m. Most stations reported receiving my signal in Europe via "long path" with their 20m yagi antennas aimed towards South America. This means that instead of the European stations aiming their directional antennas at Australia via the shortest path (form Europe in a South Easterly direction towards Australia), most were receiving my signal via the long way around the earth (Australia, NZ, The Americas & then Europe). This is a much longer trip for the radio signal to travel than by the shorter, more direct path. You wont get a clearer testimony to what a great little antenna the Buddipole is than a video like this. Atmospheric conditions also determine what propagation on any particular day is like too. You can have the best antenna in the world, but if conditions are not good for HF, then it just wont work! If you take time to setup the Buddipole correctly, it's a versatile solution for those like myself that enjoy portable HF amateur radio. I'm setup portable in this video at Werribee South, Victoria in South Eastern Australia.

  • Craig thank you for the video. Buddipole and KENWOOD need to put you on their payroll. Damn your 590 sounds great. Your videos have definitely sparked my interest in portable HF and the TS 590.

  • @996miko Hi Noel, thanks for your comments. The TS590 is the first Kenwood I've ever owned. I bought it in November last year as soon as it was released and it's a pleasure to use. It's very nicely built, easy to use, has great filtering, & I'm very impressed with the audio. The Buddipole is a fantastic portable antenna system. If you want more information on the TS590 and Buddipole, I suggest you consider joining the Buddipole User Group & TS590 Group - both on Yahoo Groups - 73, Craig VK3VCM

  • Great video Craig

I'm a huge fan of the Buddipole Deluxe version.

Maybe we could try a Buddipole to Buddipole contact.

I have an unboxing video on my channel

  • @markbeermonster Hi Mark, I remember watching your unboxing video over and over while i was waiting for my Buddipole to arrive from the USA!!! I'd like to make a Buddipole to Buddipole contact sometime!! That would be GREAT! ..and I agree with your sentiments about the Buddipole - it's a fantastic little setup for portable HF operation. 73, Craig VK3VCM
