With over 50 billion dollars spent on gifts this Christmas alone, American consumerism continues to soldier on. Unfortunately, little thought is given to the manufacturing of some of our favorite products. Are our bargains coming at the expense of someone else? John Whitehead examines that question and other consequences of sweat shop labor in this week's vodcast.

  • @pwnage122334 some of them got bailouts

  • I know that some companies did get caught using sweatshops. but what were the consequences to these companies??

  • I wanted to tell you that this means a lot that you are active. Anarchists join you in your quest for consumer reform, religions aside, we must cease harsh injustices through the ceasing of support for these business' and not the people who work there.

  • I agree with John. Everyone has a responsibilty once they've been educated on the topic. You have to stand on moral grounds and in your best efforts, protect the human values.

  • its not anti capitalist, but the anti human aspect, I don't want my fellow man abused, I am a lucky very well off american, sadly I have not overly been conscious of my shopping and my voice, but may heart does not want this abuse, but still I am to blame

  • No interest in talking to me and yet here you remain, I am honored. Of course that must mean I am not a mindless parrot, which I agree is the desired product of a state run school. Now if I correctly interpret your use of the term hypocrite I'm afraid you are in error. Have I not consistently agreed with your position that unchecked capitalism is good? That sex, death and rock and roll are big money? That we exploit the masses to their last drop of blood? How could anyone be against that?

  • almighty dollar ? please throw your capitalist consumer computer in the trash and stop being a hypocrite MrRude ,I have no intrest in talking to a mindless parrot whos simply a product of state run schools , dont you have a 911 truther conspiracy convention to go to or something ? Go get tazed or something you sleepy eyed doper .

  • LOL! The kids that can't farm will need to prostitute themselves or work in sweatshops! I like you're style grandcon but why stop there? Farmer, prostitute or mercenary contractor, it's all good in the land of the almighty dollar. Heck sex and death are our best sellers and although "farmin aint glamrous" a girls still gotta eat, know what I mean? You make the world you live in so how do you like it so far? How does your neighbor? Still lock your doors at night? Nice place we got here eh?

  • your a nut , go away , and please throw your evil industrial computer you shoped for in the trash please , and go farm , and move to your anti-capitalist paradise , the kids who cant afford land to farm in will need to prostitute themselves if we dont let them work in sweat shops , but then the left just view that as a legitamate alternative proffesion , so thats ok with them.

  • Close but actually they become prostitutes and drug smugglers AFTER the industrial revolution. However if we didn't allow it to happen those silly people would remain happy, simple and honest farmers and goodness knows we can't have that! Much better industry, centralized government, weapons and aggressive wars in the name of shopping. We'll get the world on board ... whether they want our particular brand of freedom or not.
