  • Though I do believe that Jesus did exist - we have to accept that he has been covered with layer upon layer of material from all sorts of religions. I remember visiting a 4th century church outside Rome and it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and I have to say the building was a converted pagan temple and the statue of the virgin did look like Venus in a big blue robe - then you can see the mixture that was there in the fourth century.

  • @johncrwarner I thought u were a quaker. I know pagan influence and pagans who becomae christians and brought their beliefs with them. I said it happened in the 4th century thats when the influences came over from pagan paints etc.

I am a Quaker - I DO believe that Jesus existed in the first century.

I also taught theology (as an amateur) and one of my finest hours was exploring our image of jesus and having an item in the middle of the floor and piling coats on it and then asking people what was underneath - it was quite illuminating to see what people thought was there. The analogy was with our perception of Jesus
