Né le 26 Octobre 1927 à Paris, pupille de l'Assistance publique.
Il prend une part active aux combats de la guerre 1939/1945, d'abord comme très jeune résistant, puis combattant FFI au Corps Franc Pommiès, puis encore en Alsace et en Allemagne avec la 1ere Armée.

Il combat ensuite en Indochine, comme chef du Commando 24 '' les Tigres Noirs'' , où il se trouve au centre des combats les plus féroces, notamment au Nord-Vietnam. * Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur * Médaillé militaire * Croix de Guerre 1939/1945 * Croix de Guerre des TOE
Roger Vandenberghe reçut 15 citations au feu, dont 6 palmes, et fut 9 fois blessé. Le Général de Lattre dira de lui '' c'est le meilleur soldat d'Indochine''.

A l'époque où le "devoir de mémoire" est à l'ordre du jour ..., moi, je ne sais pas si la mémoire est un devoir. Mais je la vois comme une offrande : lui offrir mon émotion ressentie devant son monument à Castillon, cette très très belle chanson de R.E.M, ici chantée par les Corrs, et puis surtout ... lui offrir un peu de notre temps....

Le GR65 passe devant une tombe ...

Il y a quelques semaines, alors que je cheminais en direction de Roncevaux, intriguée, je m'y suis arrêtée. Je ne connaissais pas ce nom, n'en avais jamais entendu parler ... Et puis j'ai vu son âge, et tous les hommages rendus. Je suis restée là, silencieuse un long moment, le regard perdu dans les collines ...

Et puis, de retour ... je n'y pensais plus; j'avais oublié. C'est en écoutant les Corrs, que j'aime beaucoup, que j'ai découvert cette vidéo...
