From the Bel Canto Opera production of Lakme; In a hut in the jungle in West Bengal, during the British Raj, the British Officer Gerald professes his undying love for Lakme, who she has nursed him back to health after he was stabbed by her father.

GERALD: My adorable Lakme
Lakme! Lakme!
At last, just we two here together
You and I alone, and in love,
Let all the world revolve around us,
The earth below, the sky above
Days pass, the years will go unnoticed
Who knows or cares if time is passing?
All that matters now is our love.
These flowers growing all about us
Are just as beautiful without us
Our love too will bloom on its own
If the world would just leave us alone
Days pass, the years will go unnoticed
Who knows or cares if time is passing?
All that matters now is our love
All that matters now is our love!
