@Nadiacloete i was never old enough to do the jive! and i was only 11 or 12 when the twist came out! the hippy hippy shake...ah!!! i was 19 before i had my first 'hippy hippy shake'! lol! i love the beatles. always have and always will.

@nuipret Oh yes! We could dance! First was the "jive". Then Chubby Checker and the "twist". Then the shake - first time round with the shoulders - later the "hippy hippy shake". I don;t remember any special dances after that - I think we just rolled them all together in one - to celebrate The Beatles!! Yep I was a total Beatlemaniac! BTW what part of the world are you from?
@Nadiacloete lol! yeah, you poor gals had it hard! it was (and still is) different for guys. we could just have a quick bath and get a shave, put our clobber on and away we went. easy peasy! and the flat pumps too. real rock 'n roll gear! but you lasses could dance just as good as the guys, even better in some cases. and i often come here on yt and type in rock and roll. and you can see loads of 50's dancers giving it hell! great stuff!
@nuipret OK still learning to use YouTube properly, but will try brenda lee! Re those petticoats? You got that right! They were great when they were new, but after a couple of washes they sagged. So - then you had to wear two - or three - or sometimes more, until you could convince your mom to buy you yet another! The shoes had to be totally flat pumps, no socks they were for kinds! And no hose, they were for the older girls! Sigh - we were only in-betweeners!
@Nadiacloete sorry for bursting your bubble! but it's a very misleading video title. all you have to do is type in 'brenda lee' on youtube and you'll see loads of her old ( and not so old) music.
but you are so very right. she was a star.
and those wide skirts with a hundred layers of petticoats...passion killers! lol!
@nuipret ok if you say so. Remember that, at that time, we in South Africa did NOT have TV or anything like that! We listened to music ONLY on the radio. What she looked like or anything like that? We would have been limited to a magazine picture, and that's too long ago to remember. I was merely referring to the song, and memories that it evoked. In addition, we wore those wide skirts with all the petticoats under them - looked like bell tents - we loved them & i loved this song!
@paul36uk hey man, it's cool! if you know this chick here, then ask her to say hello to me! she's class!
