I hate when rejected idiots decide to post a paragraph "trying" to make themselves seem intelligent by using big words... maybe he read the book, maybe he didn't.. you do NOT know.. so a hint, enjoy the music you fuckin spazz!

I doubt MJK has read Martin Heidegger's works, but Tool seem to be steeped in his ideas of art being purely subjective, creating it's own world for the observer, opening up a sacred space, etc.Letting a piece of art simply exist for itself instead of being used in a technological way by serving a function or being symbolic. Art is not a technical artifact. It exists in its own space, so forget about any connection it has with our world, our time etc.

I love 1995 because paul actually played the songs he wrote for aenima.

@niginit You, sir, are just plain fucking wrong. Art is absolutely open to interpretation (surrealism, abstract art, impressionism, etc...). Tool is an outspoken proponent of subjective meaning being the correct meaning.
Don't believe me?

elated If you need to formalize art to feel comfortable with it then fine, but don't shit on other people for having a more open-minded approach. -
read meaning into it-- therefore it becomes more a judgment of the artist instead of the art (which, in case you didn't get the memo, is something Tool is almost phobic of).

To me, this song is a simple social commentary on the growing lack of comfort with vulnerability in our generation. Nothing can be left to mystery anymore, and when we've striped the mystery out of every single thing, we have to "ram the fist deeper" to be stimulated again. Who cares what it means to Tool? Art is only successful WHEN it is prone to subjectivity. It seems from their interviews like Tool understands this. Knowing what this song means to Maynard detracts from your ability to

he sings
Something kinda crawling inside
Can not Peel Away from me
Should I try to care or take it down
Held what feeling did to me
Something's shoved deep inside
Here we go, you kneel and I'll stick it in
I really don't feel a thing at all

Shhhshhhshhh
It is using anal fisting as a metaphor but you guys obviously have no clue if you think they have nothing better to do than sing about anal fisting. You need to watch Maynard interviews....he expilicitely states this.... Tool is much deeper than you think.

It's a dichotomy.
Love would be the obvious, objective choice but fear can be easy to choose when you are desensitized by life and struggles that you go through.
There's obviously a lot more considering it's a tool song but that's the gist.
