  • Is that the music from "The Phantom of the Opera?"

Wow, was he HOT when he was young. My Milland favorite HAS to be "The Lost Weekend." So powerful, and a performance to be in awe of.

Fans, try to see "Payment Deferred." He's only 27 in that one, and ladies, get in line after me.

    =)

  • @rem2267 Correct! Part of the video soundtrack features 'Romantica' from 'Phantom of the Opera'.

  • those were the day's. hollywood is so ghetto nowadays.

  • He played great detectives and crime characters up holding the law, etc. A blend

of men that usually found them selves in missions of great peril. The romantic lover

with gentle charm was also his trademark Truly good looking and talented

actor. Another icon of another era yet not forgotten.

    Long live Ray Milland*

  • @basilnelson - I think that was a good choice for the background music. Tks for the upload!

  • @EvansGarden We totally have the same taste in men! Your observation about his deftness and athleticism is spot on. He was a soldier was he not? I can see the Welsh influence also (obviously since he was Welsh). But his softness of speech and his rounded pronunciation -- he was the whole package. Have you watched the Bulldog Drummond here on youtube? it's great! I also loved him in "The Uninvited'. "Copper Canyon" is excellent western,"Reap the Wild Wind" --fantastic. My fav "Ministry of Fear".

Hi! and thanks for getting back to me! I utterly agree about Bogart and Milland. As a woman, I honestly don't know of any other actor who appeals quite as much. And since this was quite a surprise to me, I took a good look to figure out what about the guy devastates me so. LOL Yes, all that we said and a deftness, an athletic gracefulness to him, too. He's amazing. Nice to talk to you and thanks again! :o)

  • As a youth growing up in the 60's daytime television (for those who played hooky) showed a great deal of movies from the 30's and 40's, and Mr. Milland was one of my Matinee idols. The film Arise My Love was tremendously inspirational, he had the looks but he had the guts to match. Elegant and regal these stars of the golden age of Hollywood will always be the creme de la creme of film. Tony

  • @EvansGarden Totally agree. He was really a great actor. I think he was better than many of the other leading men we think of from that era. Especially his romantic scenes are so real. He was very sexy. IMO, Humphrey Bogart and he are the only two I can think of who could be tough guys and very romantic also. You mention vulnerability. That's probably what makes him so compelling. I really can't think of any other screen actor who could pull that off.

  • What a fabulous tribute! TCM just had Ray Milland as Star of the Month (April 2011) and it was a revelation to me. He is now my favorite actor (man). Utter veracity of emotions, powerful. He could do anything, had the widest range I've ever seen. HIlarious, terrifying, degraded, elegant, in love, in hatred, vulnerable, anything and it was real. He stole the scene in any movie I saw him in and I tried to catch them all. This woman wishes she could time-travel for real. :o)

  • Beautiful tribute to a real first class artist! They don't make 'em like Ray Milland any more.
