ANIMOOG demo, with TENORI-ON! By MIDI, through ALESIS IO DOCK - Turorial, Ambient IDM Performance

I'd rather play it with DOTS than use a keyboard like the rest! To do this was easy, if you have a USB MIDI device like this Alesis IO Dock - I plugged the MIDI OUT dongle on my Tenori-On W to a standard MIDI cable, then to the MIDI IN on the IO Dock. Start up Animoog, and press "SETUP" on the top bar. Press "Refresh MIDI Input(s)" if necessary. Then I selected the option "dock" from the list below. Then I pressed the "X/Y PAD" word on the top bar to go back to playing mode. The Animoog "listened" to the MIDI notes from Layer 1 of my Tenori-On, as if it was any keyboard! I then used layer 2, etc. to add drums and such, while my right hand operated the AniMoog's amazing touch pad and other controls. Enjoy these 3 jams! Which get more complex as the video goes on. Good job. A question: Are you using iOS 5 on the iPad? For some reason, Garageband outputs audio through my io Dock headphone output, but Animoog does not. I can't sort out where the problem lies. Animoog recognizes the dock as MIDI source, though. It looks like your output is working fine! I'm very envious at the moment.

@threeBG Have NOT update to iOS5 yet? But probably will - am expecting to buy a iPhone 4S soon. I'm sure they will solve any incompatibilities soon>

Sweet Vid as always, I never thought of using an external sequencer like you have. I'll have to hook this up to my DAW.

@thebaggytrouseredone Thanks! What's even weirder is that you can use another App on the SAME DEVICE to sequence it also - such as the Genome sequencer which I will soon cover ;-)

Hello. Very nice video. I have a question though. Is the io dock enough to play ipad apps live with a midi control device? Do you output the sound from the io dock's outputs?

Like. I empathise with your dislike for the standard keyboard interface. You would think that manufacturers would be providing more possibilities other than the standard western approaches to interfacing. Toshio Iwai has created something wonderful with the Tenori On as have moog with animoog.
