Brooklyn Monk, Antonio Graceffo returns to Malaysia to study Silat Kalam, a religious form of Silat, taught by Guru Mazlan Man. Martial Arts Odyssey fans will remember Guru Mazlan Man from a previous video, "Silat Because of God." The Guru and Antonio both appreciated each other's philosophy, and the Guru invited Antonio to be the first ever, non-Muslim student of Silat Kalam.

Silat Kalam is a grappling form of Silat, in which an opponent is taken down to the ground, and then locked. The locks can be limb breakers, submissions or killers. One theory on the origin of Silat Kalam is that it is a modern, living example of the ancient Persian art of Gulat.

  • honestly, where did you learn this silat? I tried to search on the internet but nothing about Guru Mazlan. Im living in Kuala Lumpur and wish to learn this. Can you please give me more info or is there any website about this silat? Thank YOU

  • @thembitch There is no website. Guru only teaks a small number of students. You have to contact him directly and see if he will accept you.

  • I enjoyed this. But I read your book some time ago, and I'm not sure but didn't you have some pretty rotten things to say about Muslims and Arabs? Have you had a change of heart, or are you just being hypocritical for the sake of learning the art?

  • @wael77 Actually I don't know which book of mine you read, but a prevalent them in my ten years in Asia has been about learning to understand and appreciate Islam. My second book and my forth book talk about Muslim ethnic minorities who are victimized in Asia. I also write for Ilume which is a huge Muslim magazine. and I have a video on here called Exploring Religion which talks about Islam. I never delete comments, but I would appreciate it if you could rethink calling me a hypocrite.

  • Peace. Can you please tell us how to contact this place? I live in Lebanon but I would love to take a time off Next year to learn this art. And can you tell us if it is solely a training community solely ( I.e: hours per week ) or is it a whole philosophy of life and a way of living?
