@SolidSWARM I actually did understand the analogy. I was just disappointed because the video set was not complete. So, if he was planning to lay out a very nice simplified explanation as to how our cells react to what we see, I didn't see it. I believe he could be right, but I'll never know now. As far as what you said about the bible, true scientific method is a good approach to anything, but a good knowledge of history and and ancient cultural metaphors is more useful in that case.

The first thought that comes to mind is why don't you use that same thought process with the Bible?
You did not make a valid point about cells seeing. It's about senses. The information is relayed to the cell by our senses. He did not say cells have eyes.

@JasonCaesare Having watched the videos, I think it's just an honest mistake on his part. He's a scientist, not a scholar. He actually did a very good job of taking very complex cell functions and making them comprehensible to common people. I was waiting for some demonstration of evidence when he started talking about how "Cells see what we see", but I was disappointed. Everything except for that and the slam on the Bible was very enlightening.

@EztliAztecatl It's clear to me that he was only trying to make a point, but he shouldn't use an example which he obviously knows nothing about to make it because someone who does know the difference between the works of literature that make up the Bible and what the church did and taught will think that perhaps he's wrong about other things too. This is strike one, but if he keeps saying things I know aren't true then I'm going to have to wonder about the rest of it too.

doing good until he hit the copernican wall

@EztliAztecatl Which also was not an idea unique to the Church. Ancient scholars in B.C days believed the same thing.

Begging your pardon if I missed it somewhere but what is this guy's name? I've never seen a lecture by him before. Thank you!
