Actually the radio series came first, then the books, then the TV series. The first book was published in 1979, and the TV series came two years later. So not to split hairs, but the TV series is quite faithful to the book.

@NorthWriter I read the book after the TV series and quite a lot of it was word for word. It was extremely faithful, whoever suggested otherwise is pretty silly :P
