On July 28, 2009, in a bid by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to fulfill the wishes of tyrant Ali Khamenei in Iran, the Protected Persons of Camp Ashraf came under barbaric and unprovoked attack by the Iraqi forces. So far 10 defenseless Iranian dissidents living in Camp Ashraf are dead, nearly 400 wounded and 36 kidnapped. The United States, as the legal protector of Ashraf residents since 2003, must have intervened to prevent the bloodshed. On the 19th day of their hunger strike outside the White House, U.S. families of Camp Ashraf residents demanded for the establishment of permanent UN station in Camp Ashraf, Iraq, to ensure its protection. They also paid tribute to Shaaban Souri, an Ashraf resident and a Protected Person under the Geneva Convention, who was wounded during the criminal attack of the Iraqi forces on Camp Ashraf. Mr. Souri , who was badly beaten with batons and truncheons on his head died Thursday night as he was being transferred by helicopter to a hospital of the American forces.
