A great book for stealing Art's licks is "The right hand according to Tatum", Riccardo Scivales, ekay music inc,,,,,After I got married, my wife quit her job, helping me combine sex with happy hour piano playing,,, even jewelry wouldn't help,

To further prove the myth that was Tatum's ability, I've read a story where Oscar tells of a wire sticking out of Tatum's ear. A Laker's fan, the master would listen to a basketball game while playing - SIMULTANEOUSLY while delivering seminal, up-tempo improvisations!
Throughout history, I guess only a handful have come close, musically and pianistically, to Art.

I'm going to trust my source of Oscar Peterson, who I believe knew him better than you. How old are you?

Musicians build on their predecessors music, so recent musicians usually sound better to us than oldsters. The problem with building on Tatum's music is that his memory, brain function re:music, and technical brilliance were all very close to the top of our evolutionary tree's potential, and there is not much space left to do much more with this most aspects of his music.

For me, the whole issue of Art as a pianist, doesn't fit in to one genre. The only genre for me is pianist! his abilities at the keyboard are nothing short of fantastic, but even more is is unique ability with harmony, time, and a seemingly boundless talent for modulating a theme. For me, nobody has emulated him, although many have tried. Oscar Peterson said, in later life, that Art was the greatest pianist he'd ever seen...irrespective of genre.
