A good beginning collection. Most of the individual coins are valued between $20 and $100. A nice collection can be put together in this price range. One major caution...deal ONLY with a reputable and certified dealer. Many fakes exist!

"Byzantine" coins are the "extension" of the heritage of Rome through 1453.

Hey moray, I have a coin from 193-211 AD and it is a Septimius Severus coin. I also have an Augustus Caesar coin from 14-37 AD. I just recieved a coin covered with dirt, and it HAS to be B.C!

@morayzebra A class act....What history...a Roman soldier might have bought a flaggon of wine with that coin...

@cldball The Aurelius Sestertius was from a CNG auction. It cost $300.

what method did you use to clean that one coin it looks awesome =)

@cldball Thanks, the Claudius was won on Ebay for 3 dollars. It cost more for the shipping. This coin was really encrusted. I decided to use electrolysis to soften it up and then mechanically cleaned it under a stereo microscope.
