1941 US Propaganda short. This predates the Pearl Harbor raid and demonstrates the build up the US military already had well under way before the attack. Also typical patriotic, yet false pride in their equipment. When this film was release the United States was still well behind in armored technology. The M2's in the short would be wholly outmatched by contemporaries like the T-34 and PzIII.

  • just saw this on TCM last nite, part of it. Yes, the M2 how pathetic it was. No wonder they attacked. They saw how pathetic we were

  • That is not BUDDY Hacket.........

  • It that Taxi Driver Buddy Hacket? Internet search says he was born in 1924. If this movie was done in 1941, and it is Buddy Hacket, that would make him 17. Ah... probably not him.

  • @pretorious700 If it makes you ill, die of illness.

  • Speeches have gotten more people killed than helped them. All of this patriotic bullshit makes me ill.

  • 356butch, you are mistaken about the tractor. For example, the Farmall A with "culti-vision" was introduced in '39 and a big seller. Many are still running in my neighborhood. Production numbers were 1939 6,242

    1940 22,023

    1941 22,950

    1942 9,579 See antiquefarmingdotcom

  • The farmer is driving a tractor?! He must have been rich. 87% of the farms in the US at that time still used horses and more went back to horses when steel became scarce as the war progressed. All in all it was still good honest propaganda though.

  • "The Army's modern cavalry guards our farflung borderlines." Good luck on THAT, buddy. This includes a pre-Pearl Harbor Presidential speech, but FDR already sounds 110% committed to war. ....Almost like a leader who would WELCOME a pretext, such as a surprise attack on the Pacific Fleet, to declare war..... Hmmmm.
