That's a great idea!
Two big pluses: "it spreads the impact force over a larger area" and "is more comfortable than current seat belts which will encourage more seat belt use".
I'm more and more impressed with Ford.

sensors in the anchor to determine if the belt is clipped in or not. A technology we already have, ever wonder how your car figures out you have your seatbelt on and stops flashing that light?

encourage? It's weird to an Australian because everyone wears their seatbelt here. It's been illegal for decades, plus why wouldn't you?
