Take down of a large coast live oak with Sudden Oak Death located over sleeping quarters at a summer camp on one side and a delicate gazebo on the other side. I'm climbing and using a Stihl 660 Mag w/ full wrap handle and a 28" bar. I was working with a 40 ton crane. Note the cheering toward the end of the clip. I insist on working with a happy, friendly crew.
The tree was showing cankers from SOD, had beetle frass at the base and hypoxylin fruiting up to about head height. You may note the tree still had green leaves, but in my own observations, trees showing frass, hypoxylin and P. Ramorum cankors are at high risk for failure even with green tops.

The tree was dieing and coast live oak with sudden oak death almost always start dropping large limbs as they decline. It would have been irresponsible to leave this tree over sleeping quarters and where kids walk everyday. I wish it hadn't been the case. Thanks for commenting.
