Just because we can do something, doesn't mean we should.
The purpose of environmentalists isn't to oppose job creation, it's to encourage job creation in areas of work and opportunity that don't drastically undermine the chances of survival for our children and countless species of life on Earth. Economics must start including accounting of "bads" and not just "goods", before we steer our economies into a ditch from which there are few ways out. We shouldn't need time travel like in Star Trek IV to have whales in the future, for instance.
