Detective Garry Ferguson & the Deadly 1987 Sarasota Shoot-Out as Portrayed on the National TV Show Top Cops.
Det. Ferguson while off-duty single handedly pursued, shot and killed the gunman (Vincent Bain) who had just murdered a local Woolworth store manager (Clifford Coffey) during an robbery. For his heroic actiona above & beyond the call of duty Det. Ferguson recieved the FDLE award for "Florida Police Officer of the Year" the highest honor given. Curiously no press releases were ever given out by the SSO and the department refused to give Det. Ferguson administrative leave to appear on the show. They also only reluctantly finally agreed to fix the 10 bullet holes in his car that the two gunmen fired into it.
Tragically too many police department administrators have forgotten that the primary duty of police officers is to put bad guys in jail and support your officers when they go out & do it. They could all take a lesson from Det. Ferguson and guys like him.
Top Cops was produced by NYPD Det. Sonny Grosso who along with the late Det. Eddie Egan made the famous "French Connection" herion Case on which the book & movie were based. Two other cops who put it all on the line for duty & honor.

Love this, never saw it in the 90s either. Officer Ferguson was pretty brave, especially since he was off duty. If this were today he'd have had a cellphone.

I just can NOT get over the the INTRO/OUTRO and most of all the EPILOGUE with music and the host's voice. It does something to me as it did 21 years ago when TOP COPS came out in the Fall of 1990. Smh, lol :-)
