Prince Charming | Chapter 4

-Victoria's POV-
I feel out of place. Usually girls like me were forced to go to tea dances and things to meet potential husbands, but me, no. I...was forced to marry a prince. He was attractive, but...I don't know. Mother said that the feeling will pass and I will grow to love him. I winced at the thought. It was a quiet lunch. That was nice though, because we could hear all of the birds, and I saw a robin fly past. It was beautiful scenery. I could sit here all day. I slowly ate my cake and took a sip of tea. I noticed that it was very much better than my usual tea. I had about 3 cups of it. It was that good. I finished rather quick and sat and waited for everyone else to finish. Then the princes started talking to each other.
"So, Joseph, when is your fiance supposed to get here?" Kevin asked.
"Before supper," he replied. "In about three hours time."
He nodded. "Very well. And, Victoria?" he asked, raising his eyebrows at me.
I sent Kara (I think that was her name) a worried look. She actually returned the glance. Was I supposed to give a verbal answer? I just nodded my head. He laughed.
"You can talk to us, both of you. Well, we understand if you are shy, but we are all...friends, well, um..."
"We all know each other...now," Prince Nicholas said, helping him out.
We both nodded.
"How long did you travel to get here?" Prince Joseph asked.
"Three hours time," I said quietly.
"Two hours," Kara said, immediately after.
He nodded. "That's a long journey," he replied.
We actually talked for a little while. We were able to relax just a little bit. After lunch, we were allowed to go our separate ways for a bit, and explore the palace. I went to my room for a second to examine myself before leaving. The palace was indeed elegant. I saw a lot of different things, and met lots of different people. I saw one door at the other side of the foyer and got curious. It lead to a stairway leading down. My curiosity pulled me downward. It actually got darker until I heard voices. Voices? I went down farther and heard words. Foul words. Words that I only heard mean, heartless homeless people in the streets say. I made my way back up and closed the door. First rule: leave that door alone.

-Kara's POV-
After lunch, I went back to my bedroom to get my book. I went down the hallway and saw a door leading...up. I went up the spiral staircase until I got to...a small room. This was a tower. With a window that looked over the city. It was beautiful. I sat on the sill and started reading. I heard a shuffling noise and looked up to see Prince Joseph standing in the doorway. I closed my book. He raised his hands.
"Please...don't curtsy. Just...yeah." I nodded and he sat across from me. "Nice view," he said, looking out to the horizon.
I smiled. "Indeed, it is."
He looked at me and I couldn't help but notice how beautiful his eyes were. "If you don't mind me saying so, you have the most...interesting eyes I have ever seen."
He laughed and I blushed. "Why, thank you. And if you don't mind me saying so, you look quite stunning yourself..."
My mouth opened slightly. I wasn't sure of how to respond. Was it...right morally, and by formality and custom, to say that to your own brother's fiance? I gave him a slight smile and closed my book.
"Um...thank you. Excuse me, but I have to go. I need a new book."
I turned away and made my way down the stairs. When I was in the safety of my own quarters I sighed deeply and lied across my bed. What am I thinking? I belonged to Prince Kevin, and him only. With these thoughts, I dozed off to sleep.
And it's only the first day.

-Victoria's POV-
I walked back to the garden where we ate. I went beyond the table and walked until I came up to a gazebo. I went in and noticed that the edges of the bench were lined with gold. I ran my finger across the gold metal and I heard a voice.
