She is one of the great 10 voices of he 20th century., the size of the voice has nothing to do with it, but her artistry and phraising made her ~well~~ the divine Schwartzkopf. And she was sooo celebrated,
Was there ever a greater singer/actress in opera than Elisabeth Schwarzkopf? And what a consummate musician. She didn't have a big enough voice for the new Met so she was never the huge star in the US as she was everywhere else. At least this film proves how great she was -- and so lovely. If you want to hear true artistry, check out her recording of Strauss' 'Four Last Songs.'
