..or more precisely, Mellotron and Pro-One - this time it's an excerpt from 'Hello Mr. Sparrow'.

  • oh thanks i thought that was a complement and a fans question, why not shown

  • @homegrowndave No offence meant homegrowndave, I ended up setting up some of these vids so that I'd need to approve comments first, basically got sick of getting negative troll comments in some cases so that's why I set some of them up like that, and why your comment didn't show up straight away. But as I say, there's really no offence meant. Anyway, just about to answer your original question...

  • do you think tim was responsible for the keyboard, meaning how he wanted it to sound,as it fits so well with the unique stlye of them and it would be hard to know what tims mind wanted from it,its keyboard but not as we no it jim.you know the sound is so distint and original you know the whole package of cardiacs was it all tims efforts/ideas.big fan but dont swat up on stuff and just curious.

  • @homegrowndave That's a good point, I'm sure a sizeable part of the keyboard arrangements would have had Tim's own ideas put in for how he wanted it to sound as part of the overall arrangement. That's not to take anything away from William D. Drake of course, as we know he's a phenomenal player and undoubtedly brought his own unique style to the whole thing....but I'm guessing it was a combination of Tim's vision and one of those rare meetings of minds which produce such magic!

  • @homegrowndave (cont)the 12 inch of to many irons before hearing it as i found them so exciting.maybe when ddrake got the "jist" of what it was about added more of his own ideas,i havnt a clue really just guessing.but keyboard sound is not just padding with chords its got a life of its own when needed.im 40 now i see them at 17 first!cheers for the reply...

  • @homegrowndave My pleasure - yeah I must admit that (as with most bands I listen to) I have to be in the right mood for them but I've always loved them, and same as you, I was just blown away by them especially when I first saw them at the Royal Standard in Walthamstow in 1987 (I guess it's always the 1st one that leaves the biggest impression) - and the Standard was always a more mainstream rock pub so I bet a lot of the punters didn't know what hit them that night!

  • @homegrowndave yeah,i rekon it may have been that way,if they had auditions say for a keyboard player and they said well hears a couple of tracks, the keyboard player who could be a whizz on thing could think what the fuck is this shit!thats usually the first reaction to even the fans, imy old girlfriends brother used to play them around 15 and you think they are just being different for differece sake and looking the same like lunatics, but before i knew it was buying all the albums,i got 12inch

  • Most splendid indeed
