I'm not sure this is the correct explanation but in the world of Tarot, the 2 of Cups card refers to a romantic partnership. So this would be a reference to Maduin and Madonna (Terra's parents), and the jewelry danging from one of the cups is Terra's locket. Just a theory though.

Classics never die. I remember.. I remember 16 years ago when I finished this game in full, and how Shadow's story and ending touched me at my very core... Please Bioware, keep these epics moments true today, because Square went junvenile and lost that magic touch that touched a young teenager like me back then,.

terra was actually supposed to die when magic disappeared. then the developers didn't want the ending to be too sad, so they changed it.
