My issue with tithing is that it takes away from the payment Jesus made and gives the glory to the payment we make. I feel we should be taught to give not try to pay for our daily Grace!
Matthew 23:23 was the only mention to tithe by Jesus but this was b 4 the Cross so the Old Covenant law was still in effect. Jesus said tithing was not the weightier matter of the law and they were still under the law.
Jesus did not say partially finished or partially paid. He said paid in full!
That's not to say these things can't have value. Only to say that doing these things, and in this way, is not essential as far as the Bible is concerned.
Being generous to others is certainly important to God, but not neccessarily in a particular form such as dues to an organization.
Nor is Worship essentially singing songs, let alone singing them in a large group. Worship is a way of life... present your body as a "living sacrifice"... all that.
The distortion of Scripture by the "Traditions of Men" is really astounding.
No where does it say that their is a need for a weekly event.
The weekly religious occasion in the Old Testament was the Sabbath, a Day of Rest.
Compare that to a day of Religious/Spiritual Activity.
And there's nothing in the Bible about going through a series of spiritual activities like the local Christian organizations we call "churches" today take people through.
So that's neither the Sabbath nor is it "doing things BY THE BOOK."
The temple of the holy Spirit in the New Testament is the believers hearts, and their is no longer a special building with a special staff. The New Testament emphasizes the priesthood of all believers and the body of Christ as a whole sharing with "one another."
There is no tithe in the New Testament or the Church of the bible.
No building is called for, so no bills that NEED to be payed.
Giving and sharing are the things the New Testament emphasizes. In the old testament the Isrealite's government was a theocracy and religious, therefore the tithe was their equavilent of a tax. It went to pay the priests who ran the temple.
That's the Old Covenant. With the New Covenenat, Jesus died on the cross and now God's presence is no longer limited to a special place in a physical location (the temple).

Church is when Christ and his people come together. Period.
Any size, even 2 or 3 "in his name" (his nature, character, spirit) will do.
Live generously as a way of life, and take the journey of life with other believers seeking after his Heart.
It's all there in the Word.

And we're all in "full-time" ministry under God.
Paul was the essential Christian teacher of the New Testament church... and he had a day job as a tent maker to pay his living expenses.
Nor does it anywhere say anything about presenting a message to the same group of people, in the same place, at the same time, each and every week.
Neither Jesus, his disciples nor the apostle Paul do this or tell us to, so why is all this considered essential today?
