Just Music. Maria Callas sings "Casta Diva" from "Norma" by Vincenzo Bellini in this recording. The orchestra information in the video is wrong, it's actually with the Coro E Orchestra Del Teatro Alla Scalla of Milan and Tullio Serafin is the conductor.

@eugegegeio Sai, è ritenuta a livello mondiale una delle migliori soprano che ci siano mai state, se non ti piace, non ascoltarla o di che non ti piace perché il tuo commento dimostra un ignoranza terribile

@neonbutterfly Do look up Norma. It's a beautiful opera, not just this aria. Check out Callas' singing "Deh non volerli vittime" from the same opera where she asks to spare her children. In this aria though, Norma who is a head priestess of Druids who is secretly in love with a Roman proconsul invokes the goddess and asks for piece (albeit the druids want her to ask for the blessing to attack the Romans).

Alright well, I uh.... I have never listened to a song that I have no clue what is being sang or said in the lyrics and uh.... my eyes are welling up everytime I hear her voice. I am just stunned by this, I'm 22 going on 23 and never experienced anything like this in my life. I don't know if that's a bad or good thing but it's just.... wow

Bellini wrote this for her. He would have been so pleased to know. Causes throat to constrict--tears to well.

I sit in my front room listening to this in a complete trance. There can be nothing better. She embodied so much...

I have listened to this at least 50 times and every time without fail, I get goose bumps and teary eyes. I escape from everything, there is nothing else there just her voice. Thank you for having graced us with your presence on earth, Maria.

That's true (responding to SteffanSwede) we should be "generous"--and thankful--but still--there are standards--whenever I'm listening to--absorbing another, I find myself referencing Callas--I've always cherished Sills but even she is slightly thinner than The Marvelous Beast! If there is anything better than this I will be happy to die in ignorance.
