@BubbaChilukuri: Players throw things off of players all the time to save a violation. You can throw the ball in other places and hurt a player (e.g. Kevin Love situation). And this is not the NBA, but I have seen the ball thrown off the face and no technical foul was called. This is completely up to the judgement of the official. It is easy for people to see a replay and tell officials what should have been done.

@Annarborborn no disrespect to your explanation, but i think that was a pretty hard throw, and it was off his face, which is normally considerd a "soft spot". I think it would be a tech in the NBA. again, it all depends on the ref's POV
