Where to Now St. Peter is the second track on Ann Wilson's solo album, Hope & Glory; it's a remake of the Elton John song of the same name!

[Track 2] Where to Now St. Peter?
by Elton John and Bernie Taupin

I took myself a blue canoe
And I floated like a leaf
Dazzling, dancing
Half enchanted
In my Merlin sleep

Crazy was the feeling
Restless were my eyes
Insane they took the paddles
My arms they paralyzed

So where to now St. Peter
If it's true I'm in your hands
I may not by a Christian
But I've done all one man can
I understand I'm on the road
Where all that was is gone
So where to now St. Peter
Show me which road I'm on
Which road I'm on

It took a sweet young foreign gun
This lazy life is short
Something for nothing always ending
With a bad report

Dirty was the daybreak
Sudden was the change
In such a silent place as this
Beyond the rifle range

I took myself a blue canoe

Elton John: Lead Vocal, Piano
Ben Mink: Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Violins/Violas, Cuatro, Programming, Percussion

  • I'm not against covers (ej has done some good ones too.. there was an album full of them I have somewhere.. chartbusters I think it was called?!?!) but I did not enjoy this at all.... but I cant stop listening to it, so what does that mean?.... am I nuts? ;)

  • Yes, you are nuts.

    Nah...just kidding ^.^ I'm sure you're perfectly sane...?

Music is all about personal preference, so maybe if you're a big Elton John fan, it's just hard to "deviate from the original" and listen to someone else perform his songs. Who knows? Personally, I like this version a lot, and I hope that you'd at least give it a chance before making your final judgements.

  • Unlike those who decry cover versions as if the original is somehow sacrosanct I revel in famous songs being done with a new approach. This is great. What a fantastic contralto voice.

  • Very interesting analysis ;)

Yeah, Ann Wilson is pretty amazing!

  • This one of my favorate songs. way to go Ann and Elton.

  • I agree ^^

This is one of two of my favorite songs off the album :)

  • Ann's voice, like EJ, have changed to make this a bluesy, raspy version. A great update.

  • @danielleburch9893 This one of my fav Elton and Bernie songs so it was hard for me to even give this a chance but I'm glad I did. This is not disappointing. Thanks for the upload.

  • like this quite a bit. especially the beginning. the middle gets a bit poppy but love the duet. ann's voice is not as pure as before, but she uses it well with EJ. glad they sang it together! that song someone was trying to figure out may have been "nobody home" or "allies" from the mid 80s.

  • I'm one of those people who usually doesn't like covers, but I think this one is great.

  • If I weren't on Paxel and I could come and I would have come...

  • Not come across her before and I LOVE this version. Great voice! Given this Elton track a new lease of life.

  • @The096757 Scat? I didn't know 4chan was doing music reviews now.

  • I don't believe this can be called a 'cover' as the original artist & co-writer is singing on it, more a new version, whatever you want to call it this is fantastic! Anns voice has gone from strength to strength over the years as has Elton's. Take the track for what it is..... A great one!!

  • GREAT! GREAT! AARRRRTTTTIIISSSSTTTT My Dear

Unbelievable Performance by a lady that can do it all and proves it night and day!

    Love, Linus Redding

  • @luangu

the blues makes it bad. what a complete waste and failuire for ann wilson to make something like this.

ann and nancy are not interesting in making music that sounds good anymore. they are trying to prove something but i don't know what.

this is just about the only bearable song on the cd but the music on this song is still dull scat.

  • It could have been "Almost Paradise" from Dirty Dancing, or "Alone".
