"Bessie" - a very funny sketch from "Victoria Wood - As Seen On TV", broadcast in 1985. The sketch is a spoof documentary on a musical about 'Bessie Bunter', an inspirational woman (apparently!)... stars Duncan Preston, Patrick Barlow, Celia Imrie, and Victoria Wood among others. A brilliant, humorous sketch! (You've gotta love the ending...)

  • >> I'll upload that sketch in due course...

Have you uploaded that other Patrick Barlow sketch yet, and if so, what's the URL? Thanks!

  • I haven't yet. I've had LOADS of problems with YouTube and trying to upload various videos I've promised everyone. I've still got that one to upload, as well as the "Making of Acorn Antiques"... etc etc. Hopefully they should come very shortly! I'll let you know once I've managed to do it.

  • Yes! Vic writes such tuneful songs, and the piano is gorgeous.

  • @mrslmathers Sadly, I had to look them both up to get that joke, but it's a brilliant one!

  • @ant501UK Brilliant. And it's a pitch-perfect pastiche of Broadway power anthems. I love this song!

  • @rossmcl177 Deborah Grant is well known in the UK, search for her on IMDB. Some people have many talents and she evidently can sing as well.

  • @ant501UK wow. Interesting. Nice memory for you. I wonder how she never became more famous...?

  • ''*coughcoughcough....sorry I've got pneumonia'' - absolute genius and as someone who has spent most of my life in a rehearsal studio sooo true!!

  • @rossmcl177 I agree and I was very proud to have been the soundman who recorded "One Day". We recorded it on the location as you see it, with Deborah Grant and the piano; she then mimed to playback for the various shots. A great series to have worked on.

  • I think it's wonderful. And perfectly performed/ :)

  • "It's more of a mental fatness..." Love it!

  • I think she should make a real musical of this
