Hurricane Gustav, being a category 2 hurricane when it hit Louisiana, was considered by our nation as a false alarm. Sure, the levees held, New Orleans really didn't get the damage it was expected, and we all moved on with our lives.

Except for the state's capitol, Baton Rouge.

Most of this footage was taken from my house, my neighbor's house, my neighborhood, and the city in general.

With wind gusts over 90 miles an hour, Hurricane Gustav surpassed the deathly hurricane Betsy and long surpassed hurricane Andrew.

Hopefully this footage will open the eyes of our nation to show the damage that occured in our state's capitol. Every 100 yards, there was a huge tree down, and every 200 yards one was crushed atop a house.

We, fortunately, only had one tree in our house and it was in the breakfast room. It could have been so much worse.

Thank you for all your concerns. We still don't have power and aren't expected to get it back for another 21 days or more, seeing as the whole city was wiped out during the hurricane, they have to get the essential places up and running first.

Pass this video on to tell others that Hurricane Gustav was NOT merely a "false alarm". It is very much a tragedy to our city and is still impacting our lives today.

  • FYI, power was lost to 1.4 million homes... your numbers are just the Entergy customers, but there was Demco too... so about 3 million people altogether (more than 1 person in most households). Your video's well done. Thanks for posting it!
