Epiphyllum-Oxypetallum or simplay queen of the night is a plant from the cactus family. A matured plant of 3-4 years will flower once or more a year if conditions were right. It gives a stunnig cented flower that usually blooms at night. Sadly this beautiful flower dies after a few hours. This video captures such an event when our 2 year old plant, grown from a cutting, gave us its first glorious flower.

  • Holy shit, it's a Lunar Flower! 8O

Such a beautiful plant... I'd kill to have some in my garden. Somehow, I doubt they'd be up to Scottish cold and rain though. Dx

    Where did you buy/get yours?

  • You can grow it in a small pot indoors in a sunny position like I do in London. I brought a small leaf from Lebanon. e-mail me your address and I'll try to send you a small plant.

    cheers.

  • Please give music credit.

    It's a very nice piece.

The drumming reminds me of aboriginal Native American.

But the singing could be Japanese...

  • I was given about 20 seeds by a French neighbour. I planted them after soaking them overnight and chitting (nicking the hard seed coat with a point) half of them. Sadly I can't remember which I chitted, but about 12 are sprouting now. Our local climate is wet and cool with some v hot sun at times. My neighbour said they are pretty easy, but they won't flower for about 2 years.I can wait. There is a lovely perfume by Fragonard called Belle de Nuit which is the French name for this plant.

  • What is the soundtrack ?

  • I have had an epiphyllum for over 40 years - a gift from my father. To watch it bloom is a miracle and I hope many of you have the opportunity to see one. The fragrance from even ONE blossom is heavenly. And yes, it is worth staying up most of the night to enjoy! Thanks for this lovely presentation.

  • No, they are not expensive. You can get them from special garden centres. once you have one, you can take cuttings from new stems or leaves. leave them water for a weak or so, until you see some roomts then plant them in a pot. They do need a warm climate, or indoor as I do in the UK.

  • how much are these? arent they like the rarest plant in the world?

  • Thank you for sharing the video. It is my favorite plant. I have one that is over 30 years old. Last summer, we witnessed over 60 blooms over a two or three week-period. Epi flowers are stunning. I love them all.
