Who ever heard of a disciplined church? After all, isn't church today supposed to be a "do your own thing" type of activity where each person seeks a church that features a likeable pastor preaching their favorite theology and above all, that allows everyone to seek their own "purpose".

That's not the biblical model for a disciplined church as you'll discover when you listen to this edition of Crosstalk that features Pastor Jeff Noblit of First Baptist Church of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Pastor Noblit 's church features an activity that they call a True Church Conference. It's theme is--Church Discipline: The Missing Key to True Church Growth.

The True Church Conference idea began last year by request from people outside of his church wanting to know how they do what they do in terms of striving to be a true, biblically healthy church. This means striving to be true as opposed to being popular or successful in the secular sense. Church discipline was chosen as the topic in order to address the biblical truth and practices that are being neglected or abandoned by some churches today.

Pastor Noblit notes that discipline is key because growth is the result of purity. Without purity, where there is known, willful, outward and unrepentant sin, the sanctity of the church is lost and you lose the power of the Holy Spirit. When churches are not striving for purity and holiness, leaving out accountability and discipline, growth ends up being manufactured in the power of the flesh.

True, there is a wide gamut of churches, some that seem to have almost no discipline, while still others can seem controlling. In response to this, Pastor Noblit believes that church discipline must be administered with humility and a compassion for the glory of God and the good of the individual..

  • Cont..John10:26.."But you do not believe BECAUSE you are not My sheep".. Jesus could have easily said, "you are not my sheep because you don't believe".. How about John17:9 "I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours".. What about Acts16:14 "the Lord opened her heart to receive the things spoken by Paul".. So God had to open her heart in able for her to receive.. What if God doesn't open the Heart? This is why John6:44&65

  • I can see where it all falls apart, as its SO hard to get people into the church at all. So then elders in your churches lower the bar of what is required in your membership.. or the church justifies ungodly behavior as `liberty in Christ` ... & on & on & on the death spiral goes till we get a First Unity Community Grace Squishy Wishy Fellowship Church.

  • If a brother or sister sins, go and point out the fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that “every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.”

Most and the oldest greek textes say "... if a brother sins" - is much more general that Jesus can chenge us through our brothers and sisters. It describes the way as Galatiens 6, 1 and Romans 15 also does. Important !

  • The true church of Jesus Christ is a relationship, not a membership. It isn’t any particular protestant denomination, orthodox or Roman catholic. It doesn't have a roof or an address. We are the Body of Christ, past, present and future from all around the world who have accepted Christ’s work on the cross for our sins 2000 years ago, once and for all. Our names have been written in the Book of Life from the beginning. 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given.

  • ...to putting all matters into their own hands, only paying God enough lip service to satisfy their perceived obligation which would otherwise result in guilt. They do not honor God, so God does not honor them, and the cycle is exponential.

  • The problem as I have observed it is around a lack of faith and patience among the leadership in the providence of God. Instead of making themselves vulnerable, and being willing to endure any suffering that might come as a result of sacrificing their former self-interest, they turn to micro-management, and receive their guidance from advisers, and consultants, and and focus groups, etc. They turn away from humbly waiting on God and having faith in His power to move them...

  • typcal christians " JUDING"& POINING FINGERS at anything that the PRECHER MAN does not teach...so eckart tolle is making money off HIS BOOK...what does the preacher man do? make money off of a book he did not even write"the bible" a supsovily sacred book that makes PREACHER men tons of money and with no work on there part, least ecart tolle wrote HIS OWN BOOK. notcie how christians JUDGE everything? they even stabe there own kind in the back, like that did tammy fae backer. PHARASIS of the age

  • It is imperative that we get this right. This is the gospel My friend, That IF God draws a man, which is regeneration, He is FOREVER saved. Our salvation is not for us, but it is for Him! "therefore it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs but on God who has mercy"!!!!!! Praise be to God for His Sovereign Choice!! Even if God threw ALL of us in Hell, it would not diminish His Glory WHATSOEVER! We would all AHH His glory from Hell!

  • I don't have a problem with "who ever will come".. but who decides who comes? John6:44 "No man can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.. John6:65 "No man can come to Me unless granted by the Father"..Acts2:39 "as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself".. This would have been a perfect time for Peter to affirm how you believe. But he left the decision up to God. Acts 13:48 "all that were appointed to eternal life believed".. Verse after verse. Shall I go on?

  • The bible clearly states,"who so ever will, let him come" and also "come all ye unto me and in no wise will I cast you out" it seems that you are diving into a area that denies that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son for. Pleas dont be to legalistic, just let your light so shine, that men may see your good work
