FS #166; FSV 155.
A recognition for the only NCAA Division 1 school located in the easternmost state. This school represents America East Conference almost full time from the small town of Orono (It participates in for both genders in ice hockey, Hockey East; and Colonial Athletic Association Football [American]).
Now, for most of you, you would think that the "Maine Stein Song" is the fight song-you're wrong. It's the SCHOOL song-there is a difference! They do have a separate fight song called "For Maine," but the students and many people that had some exposure to "Stein" do feel that it is a fight song as many will identify it readily as the song for UMaine. So, I did put both of them up in this vid.
Yes, you will see that the school song is WAY different from the fight. As I believe, universities that are in a small town or rural setting, they are bound to incorporate some aspect of drinking than suburban and urban schools (colloquially, "Commuter schools"). It does describe the culture of the school too. All the same, by what I read in the criticisms of the school song, it is one of the best to hear, and mistakenly, one of the top fight songs in America. Yet, it is derived by a song composed by Rudy Vallee, a UME alum that presented his version to national radio in the 1920's. Soon, the university used his song and altered it to become the song we know today. And if you want to know what a stein is (pronounced: "stahyn" [e is silent, and long i]), there are two meanings: 1-a mug, usually earthenware, especially for beer. 2-the quantity of beer or other liquid contained in a stein (presumed to be a fixed measure.) Now the breakstrain, how will the ladies sing this? :)
For the fight song however, I don't have much to say but yes, the song is inclined to American Football than the renowned sport in the area, hockey. I do not know what the fans will sing in place of the football terms, but likely, I will not expect the lyrics to change. Though a little less devotion than the school song, I feel pleased with the line "Tearing ground with the cheering" to include the fans actively backing their team.
Yes, there are 2 and 1/4 minutes of enjoyment, Maine fans! Thanks for watching, how d'ya like it?

I will say again if you are a regular in watching my vids, no profanity or bigotry, and do not copy. Repeated offenses can have you blocked, and if you copy, you will automatically be blocked.

  • Well done, excelsior27. Thanks for the research on the school song vs. fight song here and the divisions in which this school participates athletically and all of the history behind it. You're a cut above the rest, when it comes to college fight song sing-alongs on YouTube. I hope Maine fans will agree!

  • @TheDapperdan75 Thanks for the praise. Yes, learning about history should be considered in these fight songs to appreciate them even more.

  • The Stein Song is UM's primary song (when the Bears come out, score, win, etc.) while For Maine is the secondary song.

The recordings are actually below normal tempo. Here's an example of how it's normally played. watch?v=xHOJ0y2dotA&feature=related
