Actually this way the press inks twice, but each sheet only runs through once, so no register issue. I only ever run with guides anyway ("hairline" vs "commercial" register) and when I do run things through twice, it's always in perfect register as the press is luckily in very good shape. Only have trouble with this if the sheets are completely wonky from humidity, etc.
I remember that you could run perfect register on a business card.
