Kajar Labs continues as a fan project hub at the Chrono Compendium, but all modding has ceased there in compliance with the terms of a Cease and Desist order received from Square Enix on May 8, 2009. The Magus Unmasked patch represented the cutting edge of Chrono fan modding activity at the time it was released in Summer 2008.

Featured music:

02:40 Zyko, "A Man by the Shore." OCRemix track.

04:33 Dead Can Dance, "Summoning of the Muse." Within the Realm of a Dying Sun album.

Guile-to-Magus art and texture alteration by BROJ, with touchups by Satoh. Magus' long status portrait screwed up a bit courtesy of FaustWolf -- that will be fixed in a future touchup addition, hopefully with some other goodies.

Special thanks to the Chrono Cross Model Project team and the folks at the now-defunct Kajar Labs modding community -- we wouldn't have made it even this far without the help of all of you.

  • Are you using an Emulator to run this ISO on your PC of did you get the PS1 to play modified ISOs?

Also I looked around for Kjar Labs but I could only find your CT work, where are you guys hiding the CC?

  • @SirBlood1911 It's an emulator. I *think* I recall someone getting the patch to work on a physical modded PSX though.

Hmm, keep an eye on Romhacking(dot)net and Datacrystal over the next several months.

  • Give me name of this soundtrack ;pp

  • @FearRPG Check out the video description for song names and sources.

  • Exactly. I mean come on, the mod here is literally reviving a party member and story that was removed from the final release of Chrono Trigger. Although some could argue that his story arc is still somewhat in there in bits a pieces.

  • Your music choice is REALLY impressive. And this is an excellent watch. :-) Kudos my good man.

  • @kfijatass ugh, yeah I agree. I still have never played Chrono Cross because I just can't past the art style. I prefer Akira Toriyama's work for Chrono Trigger too much. Seeing Magus in this video only helps reinforce that. He looks terrible.

  • Just how many fucking Cease and Desist orders is Square going to ISSUE TO DISAPPOINTED FANS?! How on earth can you attack your own fanbase unrelentlessly like that? Don't they realise this will damage their sales?! They did this to Chrono Ressurrection as well! They only care about milking out Final Fantasy sequels.. fuck them all!

  • I think of two things...

Either the game tries to run at 50Hz with a 60Hz NTSC version or you have to enable MTGS or whatever it's called.

  • @kfijatass They originally meant for Magus to become Guile, but they never worked it into the story so they decided to make him a new character. When they re-released it the third time they decided to finally add a new ending where Magus loses his memory and begins to wander as Guile. For more info look for the video where the game creator is talking about it *eh lazy*

  • Meh, Magus seems much more badass in Chrono Trigger than in Chrono Cross.

  • No offence, but I can tell that this was fan-made... The music is off quite a bit...
