  • @steamednotfried Thanks God Rachmaninov didn't think so.

  • The best recording of this marvellous concerto. Richter is fabulous of energy, timing and expression. Unbeatable until today. A must.

  • 2:15!

    greetings from greece!

  • @steamednotfried Beginning there would not favor the dynamics of the work. There is an aggressive theme, the so-called "masculine" tempest, a waving and inconstant fierce sea, always starting to fight the silence, and against it there is an opposite "feminine" land peaceful theme, as the comforting voice of a siren calling to resemble the resting paradise every time the sea goes back leaving the wet, dropping seashore. Rachmaninov had just been under psychiatric threatment when he composed it.

  • @demosj Haha! This piece is from '59, the CD is from '96

  • Richter was 81 years old when he gave this performance? This is just out of this world.

  • Rachmaninov is Rachmaninov!!!

  • I'm sorry, I love most of this concerto, but the beginning of the final movement is rubbish. It's noisy and dramatic without cause. As far as I'm concerned, the final movement would be better off starting at 1:31.
