In this exchange, Taylor is challenged by a Muslim student who wears the veil voluntarily. Taylor argues against cultural relativism and individualism in her response and gets iinto the origins of women's oppression and why communist revolution holds the potential for women's liberation and challenges everyone in the audience to be a part of the struggle for human emancipation.

Actually, covering yourself can be called a "cultural symbol" because in the Quran it doesnt actually say nothing about women having to wear a hijab or burqa. This notion of "covering yourself" is a clear example of how patriarchal culture has unfortunately become intertwined with religion.

You need to be very brave, well learned and very clear to go out in the US and say "I'm fighting for communism" because Communism has be so very satanized in the core of Capitalism.
