Static build up causing a twitchy tail. The problem was solved with graphite spray, at least for the moment. I did not stop flying, and eventually the gyro rebooted or something. The bird went down ... but is now rebuilt. Dont fly when you know something is wrong!

  • I forgot to mention this before now... My tail servo was probably faulty at delivery and caused the crash. I do think that the electrostatic was not the culprit - but it was no fun flying with...

  • Hi, This morning my bird went down twice!!, i guess its static that resets or kills the 401.

The first time i lost the tail after about 3 minutes and the tail servo didn't react until i reset the power. The second time in the same flight the tailservo stopped working but this time in the outerlimit, even the controlrod was under stress from goin all the way to the right. Again i was lucky to get the 500 on her skids in the grass. I guess its time to go static hunting for me also.

  • Good luck in your hunt! Good on you for getting the bird down. Did you see any twitching in air, or did it just happen suddenly? My bird got increasingly worse with flying time, and then the ground came upwards very suddenly.

I used Graphit 33 from Kontakt Chemie. Its powder graphite suspended in some liquid, in a spray can. It works, but the graphite will disappear after a while.

Ill check out 0n3m1s1s0 anti staic solution :D

  • Thanks, gonna do that when I have the time. Ive used graphite spray up to now, and that work also - but with time it will dissappear.

  • but be carefull when you do that as i think the above poster didnt see the utube vid of a trex 500 catching fire coz of the wire mod :( want a good anti static solution? check out my trex500 and i will explain all :D

  • Put a thin cable from a conducting part of the tail which also your belt runs over (e.g. one bearing wheel) to minus connector of battery. Thus taking any statics from your tail belt away before it can build up.

    All interference gone!
