Here's a little instructional vid I did to show you how to make a steadicam for your iPhone (it also works great for small camcorders). Be sure to check out the demo vid over at www.aetherdrinker.blogspot.com.

Edit: Not trying to take credit for inventing any part of this, lots of people have great posts on YouTube and elsewhere on how to make every part of this, and I highly recommend them. I can't credit them all, so use the search bar or Google. This is just my take on how to do it for an iPhone or small camcorder. It's just for fun.

If anyone wants more details and instructions just let me know.

Edit 2: Thanks for all the comments, I'm using your advice to tweak this thing and post one more video (and then I'm done with this thing, it's on to more useful tools). Right now this is more a stabilizer than a steadicam. A real steadicam needs to be completely balanced, which this rig is not. So stay tuned.

Also as some have pointed out BE CAREFUL HEATING PVC PIPE! IF IT BURNS IT IS HIGHLY TOXIC (puts off Dioxin)! Don't let it catch fire, and perform in a well ventilated area, preferably with a mask.

And the camera I used to film this How To was a Canon 5D Mark II with a 50mm 1.2L lens. No lighting, or post effects were used.

Lastly if you want to purchase the phone holder I used, you can find it here, along with all the gear I used to film this How To:

Thanks!

a skater store near by, pick up what I need, & thanks to you & your foresight to stop & ask yourself "Hmmm.. I bet I could make that!" + instead of running off with part or all of this months rent $ to buy one & made this very well put together 'How To' Video! I too will be having fun testing my own home made Stabilizer like a kid on X-Mas morning ! :-)

  • I made a 'Camera Stabilizer' quite some time ago…. Got the the plans off a guy's web-site(Photos, not Vid How To) he was a guy studding at I believe it was MIT, anywhoooo, the design was great for back in the day( say 5-8yr.s or so) when I was shooting with a Canon XL-R or my Canon GL-2, but the design you've using to show us how to make in this vid is more exactly what hit the market 5-15yr.s back & cost approx. 350$-$1500US! SO THANK YOU! :-) I'm hitting the hardware store tomorrow & SEE C2:
