APW High School jazz ensemble playing Duke Ellington's "In A Mellow Tone" arranged for Jazz ensemble. The piano player didn't get any fun parts! :(.
They played this at their annual Sherburne Pageant of the Bands weekend on June 1st, 2007 and placed second place with two other tunes.

  • hey fuck you buddy if you can post a video of the correct way to play this piece i will spam all over it correcting every little thing that is wrong with it.

  • hey skimbleshanks, this is the lead trumpet player. and FUCK YOU. i dont care if i should have backed off. get over it. we were a high school jazz band in the middle of nowhere. what the fuck do you expect. perfection? sorry alot of the students playing in that band werent even playing thier respective instrument. . i just came across your post, and being that lead trumpet player who needs to back off, wanted to say fuck you.

  • hmmmmm who cares what ur playn. this is wat we did not u bird usd a speed that he wantd like uv never playd a piece diff than its written? geez dnt b so mean. mayb ur playn it too slow : D

  • uhh..I'm sure we've heard of those...but this butchered to the extent that it has none of the original integrity and purpose of the original. There is no limitation, but come on...It does NOT sound good or natural played that fast. The balance is way off too. Again, lead trumpet needs to back off. Mellow is the operative word.

  • Well even the classics are up for interpretation. Ever heard of covers and re-releases? That is the beauty of the world of music, not everything is structured and limited all of the time.

  • Yeah I totally agree..we did this exact version aswell..this is way too fast..it's called "In a 'Mellow' Tone" for a reason.. :P .. the lead trumpet should probably chill a bit too.

  • what doesnt belong?
