Making an Illegal and Dangerous Left Hand Turn

You are not supposed to cross a double yellow line when you drive a car but people do it all of the time.

There are reasons why you are not supposed to cross a double yellow. The reasons are that if you do, you could be putting yourself and/or other people in danger.

The following sentence is from the Illinois Rules of the Road, Chapter 10 re: pavement markgin: Solid double yellow lines are used where traffic is moving in opposite directions. Two solid lines mark the center of the roadway. Solid yellow lines may be crossed to make a left turn to or from an alley, private road, driveway or street.

That's one of the exceptions to crossing over double yellow lines, to turn left into a driveway, etc.
