'Days are coming' - anthem of the civic initiative 'My signature is a Law'. The first successful civic initiative for collecting signatures as united support for enacting a Law for the protection of the right and dignity of people with disability in Macedonia.
This civic initiative was lead by Polio Plus. It was supported by many additional elements, wide campaign, a caravan 'travelled' on national and local level, debates, round tables ect. It's aim was to raise the public awareness about the need to undertake precise legislative changes that will lead to appropriate protection of the rights and dignity of persons with disability and also to raise the awareness of persons with disability about the power and strength of the united efforts.
The official start of this process was on November, 4 2005. The offices of the local units of the Ministry of Justice were ponted for the signature collection were opened untill December, 30 2005. Within that period were collected 18.968 signatures, a number that is twice bigger than the required census defined by the Constitution of Macedonia. (10,000 signatures)
Unfortunately, and in spite of the good will of Macedonian citizens and deputies who accepted this need by acclimation (66 voices in the Parliament), the Law is still not enacted.
