I'm building an earthbag house which will incorporate many ideas from the earthship camp. I did my apprenticeship by building the dome first. Sorry for the lack of effort on the vid, I just wanted to get some photos up so others can see what I'm doing. Eyes tend to glaze over when I attempt to explain...

  • What is the process for dealing with building codes? It would be heart breaking and infuriating to have it tagged after it was done. Do the come do inspections?

  • @OccupyPsyche Every time I answer this question online, I feel like I'm putting a big 'ol target on my back for a bureaucrat to take a pot shot. With that in mind, there are no codes where I'm building - as long as I stay away from the electric/utility company. If I invite them in, I have to play by their rules. I would also get the privilege of paying them $20k for installation, $ for code, and a monthly bill. I went with off-grid solar.

  • I watched almost all your videos. Great work! Which concepts from Earthships have you incorporated into your structures? Will you capture rain water into a cistern? Will you have a south facing glass wall in order to build up solar gain? How will you manage grey water and black water? Plants? The earth bag concept of building is very interesting, and you sharing your progress is an amazing thing. Thanks again!

  • @wolfywho You basically covered it all. Roof will catch water to cisterns, 2 large planters in the front (south) of the house will be fed via gray water system, black water feeds an outdoor botanical cell (watson wick), walls and floors are built for thermal mass, sky lights for naturally lit interior, roof and wall vents for convection heating and cooling, solar power for electricity. Thanks for the post.

  • ...no barbed wire?

  • @paulpellicci yes barbed wire : )

  • @adrastea99 Well it would be way simpler to just park a trailer. It's a silly argument because the aesthetics are totally different with different building materials. There's a totally different mojo with theses walls compared to brick/ adobe brick. I love this way of building - plus, the price is unbeatable.
