"When you listen to Bach, you see God materializing... When you listen to an oratorio, a cantata or a Passion, you know that He exists... When you think that so many theologians and philosophers have laboured day and night searching for proof of God's existence and forgetting the only..." E. M. Cioran

Well Madame Alain comes from the French School of Performance. Although her articulation is very good. Bach I feel used his Heels... But I don't think heel in this piece is at all necessary she felt it was...
@Bachlives2 - She still avoids using them most of the time though, especially compared to where I've seen her play later repertoire. you can play all of those bits where she uses heels with the same toe or with alternate toes. She's just doing it to be lazy and to justify playing in those high heels. :D
And Koopman's always said that not only is it possible to play all of Bach's pedal parts with just the toes but that it is easier, and that it articulates better...
@ForestChav- Yes to quote her " I have noticed that switching from Romantic fingerings to more straight forward early fingering results in a great simplification of my entire position on the manuals, and abandoning the excessive use of heels leads to a better equilibrium on the pedal board." -Marie-Claire Alain , "why and acquaintance with Early organs is Essential to playing Bach.
@ForestChav- Koopa believes Bach didn't know what heels were in a sense if you get my drift. He believes that during the Baroque era, no one used there heels in playing the pedals. With that being said how would someone play Schlicks 10 voice Chorale Fantastie on whatever it was with 4 voices in the pedals?
