Video clips depicting a spontaneous combustion/explosion of silanes gases with air, plus a slow motion movie of the main explosions. The silanes were generated by a rather slow reaction of calcium silicide and hydrochloric acid (the gas evolution is acconpanied by frothing). Sorry for the picture quality.

  • the same reaction can be done with magnesium silicide. It's pretty fast IMO. Magnesium silicide can be made by heating a mixture silica sand and magnesium powder with excess magnesium. Best with anaerobic conditions.

  • Holy-Terrorist:>is possible the car with fuel silane ?

  • so you added hcl with calcium silicide and the gas released reacted with the air?
