The Dangers of the Tea Party and Social Movements in General

For a literature class, I am reading a novel by Richard Wright titled "Native Son." I recommend it, it is a pretty good book. While I believe Ellison's "Invisible Man" portrays the theme better, the idea of cultural hegemony as it pertains to race in America is an interesting topic. Perhaps hegemony is the reason the tea party exists, and why a woman that is anti-masturbation can be nominated to represent republicans, and why a soccer mom can be nominated for vice president.

The scariest thing for me is seeing these people apply black-white logic to literally everything. Something as complex as the role and amount of gov't involvement in a capitalist economy is simplified down to this big/small gov't nonsense, complete with simple minded assumptions about what each side inherently represents.

This kid is obviously misguided. I'm not going to harp on him for that. I hear you talking a lot about your professor's in school. That's ok, you should listen to them. But do yourself a huge favor that will help you later on life. Find out for yourself. Do your own research. Get the other side of the argument and challenge your own beliefs.

Dude - First of all, Communism was not a good idea that went bad - it was a bad idea to begin with. And it murdered millions BEFORE Stalin came into power.

You get yourself all worked up about Tea Party "racism" yet where is your concern about the tens of thousands of whites folks who are robbed, raped and murdered EVERY YEAR by blacks & Hispanic ? Google "The Color of Crime."

The Tea Party is just a group of "old school" Americans who believe in the Constitution, nothing wrong with that.

@rdubwiley While agree that the tea party movement certainly deserves plenty of serious consideration and caution, don't you think that attempting to instill fear in your viewers towards a specific group of people may be poor judgement? After all, you seem to want people to think rationally which usually doesn't go well with fear. Obliquely comparing them to murderous rapists may also be a bit heavy-handed, don't you think?
